Ozcan new president of YOK

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Ozcan has been assigned as the new chairman of the Higher Board of Education (YOK).

President Abdullah Gul appointed Ozcan, who is a lecturer at the Sociology Department of the Middle East Technical University (ODTU), as the new chairman of the board.

Ozcan is also an advisor to the chairman of the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

Prof. Dr. Erdogan Tezic was the former chairman of YOK. His mandate was over on December 8th.

Ozcan was also an advisor to the chairman of the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

Born in 1951, Prof. Ozcan graduated from Ankara University's Department of Sociology in 1973. He had his Ph.D. in 1981 at the U.S. Chicago University and was hired by ODTU the same year.

Ozcan became a professor at ODTU in 2003 and served as the head of ODTU's Sociology Department for some time.

Prof. Dr. Ozcan wrote many books and articles on sociology, research methods, voting behaviors, police, social statistics, social control and deviation, and social activity.
