Storms cause flash flooding

FLASH flooding has been reported at Goodna, in Brisbane's west, as thunderstorms swept through the southeast this evening.

A couriermail.com.au reader sent in photos of cars negotiating the Albert St floodway at Goodna, wwhere floodwaters quickly rose after a heavy downpour this afternoon.

Keep track of the storms

Earlier, the Bureau of Meterology said: "Widespread showers are developing across much of the south east and eastern Darling Downs and were also seeing the early development of some thunderstorms," a bureau forecaster said.

"The metro area will be at high risk for some showers and some thunder storms during the course of the afternoon. There is only a very low chance of hail but there will be stronger gusts.

Boonah south of Ipswich is also currently experiencing rainfall, though there is none to speak of in the Brisbane area, the forecaster said.

More showers are expected for tomorrow but a change will come through leaving fine conditions for the rest of the week and into the weekend.

The forecaster said it was still too soon to comment on the weather conditions for Christmas Day.
